Comment period extended one week on travel management plan
The comment period for a proposed plan to revise travel management on the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands, including the Buffalo Gap National Grassland in South Dakota, has been extended to Monday, Nov. 16.
The plan would allow motorized access to national forests and grasslands only on a designated road and trail system, in compliance with a federal rule regarding off-highway vehicles and other motor vehicle use that was published in November 2005.
The comment period allows the public an opportunity to ask questions and submit comments on the Travel Management Draft Environmental Impact Statement. There will be another public comment period when the Final Environmental Impact Statement is released.
A final decision is expected in early 2010, with a Motor Vehicle Use Map published later in the year.

Meanwhile, Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., has asked the Forest Service to extend the original comment period for an additional 45 days.
