The South Dakota Off Highway Vehicle Coalition is a recreational organization that advocates and promotes the responsible use and conservation of our public lands and natural resources. SDOHVC represents off highway enthusiasts, mountain bikers, ATVs, equestrian riders, 4x4s, snowmobiles, motorcyclists, hunters and other users. Comment period extended on national forest travel plan
The comment period for public comments on the Black Hills National Forest draft travel management plan has been extended to May 18.
Forest Service travel planner Tom Willems said the comment period on the draft environmental impact statement for the travel management plan is being extended at the request of various groups and individuals who have asked for more time to respond to the five possible alternatives in the draft plan.

Badlands included in park service stimulus plans

The National Park Service plans to spend $8.9 million in economic stimulus money for work in South Dakota's Badlands.
A list from the National Park Service shows that rehabilitating the Badlands Loop Road and replacing a deteriorated boardwalk on the Cliff Shelf Trail as the only projects in the state among more than 750 nationwide to get stimulus funding through the park service.
Total spending is listed as $750 million.

A significant snow melt combined with more than 1 inch of rain throughout the Black Hills region has U.S. Forest Service officials asking ATV and OHV users to think twice before heading out on the trails.
Frank Caroll, Black Hills National Forest planning staff officer, said recent rains have left roads and trails soft and susceptible to damage.
